Dark emails, not just a dark frame
Full dark darkens email bodies and the compose editor on your screen. Dark toolbars (called "Dark Gmail, original emails") darkens the interface and leaves emails as the sender designed them.
Works with Gmail's own theme
The extension detects Gmail's native theme. With the light theme it darkens the whole interface plus the emails. With Gmail's dark theme on, it only darkens the still-white email bodies.
Already-dark emails stay dark
Dark newsletters are recognised and left alone instead of being flipped to white. Images, logos and avatars keep their real colours in every email.
See the original any time
A "Show original colours" button above each darkened email shows it exactly as designed, and "Show dark" switches back. Sent, forwarded and printed mail is never changed.

Yes, for the interface. Gmail's Dark theme (Settings, Theme, View all) darkens the menus and the message list but leaves email bodies white. GPT Workspace adds the missing part: the emails themselves.
Install the free GPT Workspace Chrome extension, open Gmail, click the moon button in the toolbar above the message list and choose "Full dark, including emails". Alt+Shift+D (Option+Shift+D on a Mac) toggles it later.
No. The darkening is a stylesheet in your browser. Emails you write, reply to, forward or print go out exactly as before. The compose editor is only darkened on screen.
They are detected and kept as they are, so a dark newsletter is not inverted to white. If any email looks off, the "Show original colours" button above it shows the sender's version while the thread is open.
No. Dark mode is a local setting of the extension. It works without signing in to GPT Workspace and uses no AI credits.
No. It is a desktop Chrome extension (it also installs in Edge, Brave and Arc). Mobile apps, Safari and Firefox are not supported, and the Google Workspace add-on cannot restyle Gmail.
