Dark Mode for Google Sheets, Grid Included
The free GPT Workspace Chrome extension darkens Google Sheets on your screen: menus and toolbars only, or the grid too. Charts keep their colours and nothing in the spreadsheet changes.
Key Features
Everything you need to work smarter with AI in Google Workspace.
Dark toolbars or Full dark
Dark toolbars darkens the menus, toolbar, side panels and work area while the grid keeps its original colours. Full dark turns the grid itself near-black with light text.
Charts keep their colours
Charts, images and embedded content are inverted back, so a red line stays red in a dark sheet. Text and cell borders invert cleanly.
Colour-coded sheets: pick your mode
Full dark inverts cell background colours too, so a green status cell changes colour on screen. When cell colours matter, use Dark toolbars and the grid stays as the author coloured it.
Nothing in the file changes
The inversion is a local stylesheet. Formulas, formatting, sharing, printing and PDF export all use the original colours, and collaborators see no difference.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. Google offers a dark theme only in the Android and iOS Sheets apps. In desktop Chrome the free GPT Workspace extension adds one, with the mode chosen from the ⋮ menu in the GPT Workspace bar at the bottom of the sheet.
In Full dark, yes: cell backgrounds are inverted on your screen, so a yellow highlight no longer looks yellow. The file itself is unchanged. Switch to Dark toolbars for a dark interface with the grid in its real colours.
Charts keep their real colours in both modes. They are inverted back like images, so a chart in a dark sheet looks the same as in a light one.
No. Printing and Save as PDF ignore the dark rendering, and collaborators, exports and the shared file are untouched. Only your own screen is affected.
Press Alt+Shift+D in any Google app to toggle between off and your last mode. The setting is remembered per app and syncs across your open Sheets tabs.
Yes. Dark mode is a local setting in the GPT Workspace Chrome extension. It needs no account, no sign-in and no AI credits.
