How it works
- 1
Add your business once
Your name, address, email and logo are remembered in this browser, so the next invoice starts half done.
- 2
Bill hours, days or a fixed price
Each line has a description, a quantity and a unit price, so 12 hours at $95, 3 days at $600 or one fixed fee all work. Discounts and tax are separate fields.
- 3
Download and send
Save the PDF and email it to your client. The invoice number increments automatically, so your sequence stays unbroken.
What you get
Hourly, daily or fixed
Quantity times unit price covers hours, days, units and flat fees. Mix them on one invoice, for example a project fee plus billable expenses.
Deposits and discounts
Enter a discount or a deposit already paid as an amount and the total due is reduced before tax is calculated.
AI mode
Type “3 days of design for Acme at $600/day, 20% VAT” and the line items, tax rate and due date are filled in for you to check.
Your logo and numbering
Add a logo, keep your own invoice numbering scheme, and the next number is suggested every time you come back.
Payment terms built in
A due date, a PO or reference number and a notes block for bank details, payment links or late fee terms, printed on the invoice.
Private by design
The invoice is built in your browser and saved there as a draft. Only the AI mode sends the sentence you typed, nothing else.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an invoice as a freelancer?
Put your name or trading name and contact details in From, the client's details in Bill to, then add one line per service: the work, the quantity (hours, days or 1 for a fixed fee) and the rate. Set your tax rate if you charge VAT or sales tax, add payment terms in the notes and download the PDF. The generator numbers the invoice for you.
What invoice number should I use?
Any unique, sequential scheme works: INV-0001, 2026-001 or a client prefix such as ACME-07. Type your format once; the invoice maker suggests the next number every time you start a new invoice in this browser.
How do I bill hours or a day rate?
Use the quantity for the hours or days and the unit price for your rate, for example 12 and 95 for 12 hours at $95. The amount and totals are calculated for you. For a flat fee use quantity 1 and the fee as the price.
Can I show a deposit the client already paid?
Yes. Enter the deposit in the discount field and the invoice shows it as a deduction before tax, leaving the balance due as the total. Mention the deposit in the notes so the client sees why.
Which currencies and languages are supported?
Pick from USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, INR, CHF, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, JPY, BRL, MXN, ZAR, NZD, SGD, AED or type any other ISO code. Amounts are formatted for the page language, and the labels on the invoice follow the language you are viewing the page in.
Is the invoice maker free?
Yes. The invoice generator is free with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many invoices you create. It is built by the GPT Workspace team as a companion to the Chrome extension.
