How do I convert a PDF to Markdown?
Drop the PDF on the box above or click to choose it. The text layer is read page by page and rebuilt as Markdown with headings, lists and tables. Then copy the result, download the .md file or open it in Google Docs.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Not yet. Scanned PDFs are images without a text layer, so there is nothing to extract. Run OCR first (Google Drive does this when you open a PDF with Google Docs) and convert the result.
What does LLM-ready cleanup do?
It removes lines repeated at the top or bottom of most pages (running headers and footers), standalone page numbers and hyphenation left over from line breaks. The Markdown gets shorter and cleaner for ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini.
Are tables and columns preserved?
Tables with aligned columns are converted into Markdown tables. Complex layouts with merged cells or nested tables may need a quick edit afterwards.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 50 MB are accepted. Conversion speed depends on your device; a 100-page report typically takes a few seconds.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The file is processed entirely in your browser with PDF.js. Only if you click Open in Google Docs is the resulting Markdown sent to create the document.
